Developer – New Build Houses – Aston-On-Trent, Derbyshire

On the site of a former farmhouse and yard in Derbyshire, a scheme with planning permission was in place when the developer approached Urban Designs.

Although the previous proposals provided a large floor area, the design of the buildings did not meet the developer’s high standards, and the layout was considered contrived and impractical.

Our approach was to design eight individual dwellings based on four layouts, adopting a traditional form to reflect the local architecture. The layout was constrained by the development boundary, resulting in larger gardens for certain plots and smaller frontages.

A pinch point was created at the site entrance, which opened up into a courtyard within the site. This design feature created a scheme with a strong visual impact, with the narrowing access road giving way to a spacious square. The use of high-quality materials, coupled with our attention to detail, ensured the delivery of a high-quality development.
